The Polisario Front has escalated its appeals for humanitarian aid, now requesting $100 million from donor countries and organizations to support the «Sahrawi refugees» in the Tindouf camps. This figure was disclosed yesterday by the «Sahrawi Red Crescent» in a statement, aligning with a meeting held in Algiers. The gathering, organized in cooperation with the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on the «Regional Response Plan for Sahrawi Refugees 2026-2027», initiated by the United Nations. The statement highlights that «the situation of the refugees has dramatically deteriorated: malnutrition and anemia rates among children and women have reached levels not seen since 2010». Algeria attributes this food crisis to what it terms an «unfinished decolonization process», a viewpoint shared by a senior diplomat during the Algiers meeting. In a related development, the United Nations has concluded the mandate of its representative in the Tindouf camps. This decision follows growing concerns from the UN and several donor countries about the lack of transparency in the management of humanitarian aid intended for the Sahrawi population, Yabiladi has learned from a source familiar with the issue. Morocco has consistently highlighted this matter in its interventions at the United Nations, stressing the necessity for strict oversight of the humanitarian situation and the importance of ensuring that aid effectively reaches those in need.
