DR ‹ › On Saturday, Spanish authorities arrested six members of a criminal network that specialized in smuggling hashish from Morocco to southern Spain using helicopters capable of transporting between 500 and 900 kilograms per flight. The Spanish Civil Guard announced that the operation, code-named «Giro», led to the seizure of 657 kilograms of hashish, five firearms, a helicopter used in the smuggling runs, as well as cash and several vehicles. Investigations revealed that the network collaborated with contacts inside Morocco to send multiple drug consignments. The helicopters would land in remote areas of the Almería province, where the shipments were offloaded and transferred to warehouses and farms in Almería, Málaga, and Murcia before being distributed to other European countries. During the operation, Civil Guard officers raided a farm in the Níjar area (Almería), seizing 25 bundles of hashish, while additional raids resulted in the confiscation of weapons and vehicles. The six suspects have been brought before the courts on charges of drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, and membership in a criminal organization. The operation was conducted with coordinated support from the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie, Belgian police, and Swedish police.
