DR ‹ › Three financing agreements worth a total of €450 million (around 4.9 billion dirhams) were signed on Tuesday in Rabat by Morocco's Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, and Daniela Beckmann, Director General for North Africa at the German Development Bank (KfW). The agreements cover funding for climate-related programmes (€100 million – around 1.1 billion dirhams), social protection (€150 million – around 1.6 billion dirhams), and the Casablanca–Settat mobility and logistics platform (€200 million – around 2.2 billion dirhams), led by Morocco's national rail operator ONCF. The climate policy support programme (Phase II) aims to strengthen Morocco's resilience to climate change and support its transition toward a low-carbon economy. The social protection programme (Phase II) will support the consolidation of Morocco's social protection reform, particularly direct social assistance schemes and employment promotion through active labour market programmes, including initiatives targeting NEETs. The Casablanca–Settat mobility and logistics programme seeks to strengthen rail transport in the region through station modernisation and the development of railway infrastructure and services. Speaking at the ceremony, Lekjaa highlighted the strength of Moroccan-German relations, noting that total financial commitments between the two countries now amount to around €7 billion (approximately 76 billion dirhams), in addition to €500 million (around 5.4 billion dirhams) in technical assistance. He stressed the importance of these funds in supporting Morocco's energy transition and climate commitments. For her part, Beckmann said KfW was proud to continue supporting Morocco's sustainable and inclusive development, adding that more than €600 million (around 6.5 billion dirhams) has been mobilised this year alone. German Ambassador Robert Dölger said the agreements reflect a shared vision for sustainable, inclusive and resilient development, while reaffirming Germany's intention to deepen cooperation, particularly in renewable energy. The ceremony was attended by several Moroccan ministers and senior officials.
