DR ‹ › Last Monday, Marwa Benahmed, the 18-year-old currently in a coma, was moved from the University Hospital of Antwerp (UZA) to the «Cadix» Hospital across the city in Antwerp, Belgium. This information was relayed by a family friend to the Belgian news agency «Belga». The transfer follows a breakdown in trust between Marwa's family and the university hospital's administration. This shift to a new healthcare facility has provided the family with some relief, as the hospital is conducting a series of medical tests and appears to be taking her condition more seriously, according to the same source. The situation began last month when Marwa suffered a brain hemorrhage at her school, leaving her without oxygen for approximately ten minutes. Medical experts, including an independent neurologist, deemed her condition irreversible, with no chance of regaining consciousness. Consequently, the hospital had decided to withdraw life support. In this somber context, the family had been scheduled for a farewell visit. However, the visit took an unexpected turn. According to the family's lawyer, John Thoen, Marwa's parents observed her opening and closing her eyes in response to her mother's voice, and she even moved her tongue slightly. These reactions, perceived as different from previous reflexive movements, led the family to challenge the decision to disconnect her from life support.
