DR ‹ › On Monday, Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tehraoui launched a pilot project to upgrade the emergency medical assistance system (SAMU) in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region. According to a statement, the initiative marks a significant step forward, with the deployment of dedicated Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service (SMUR) teams across the region's provinces to improve access to care and ensure faster patient response. The project also introduces an integrated network to facilitate the transfer of urgent cases between healthcare facilities, supported by close monitoring. A dedicated information system will streamline operations, benefiting both patients and medical staff. As part of the rollout, 16 new regional teams will be established across all provinces and prefectures, Rabat, Salé, Témara, Kénitra, Khémisset, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane, alongside the rehabilitation of existing structures. In addition, mobile service units will be set up within reference hospitals, along with upgrades to regional, provincial, and local emergency departments, the statement added. The initiative also includes the development of specialized emergency pathways, particularly in pediatrics, neonatology, cardiology, neurology, obstetrics, and traumatology, alongside the modernization of the ambulance fleet. The project represents «a strategic step» toward broader reform of the emergency medical assistance system in the region, with the aim of improving service quality and enhancing the speed and efficiency of medical interventions.
