DR ‹ › France 24 Arabic recently fell victim to a hoax on the social media platform X after broadcasting information from a fake account falsely attributed to Morocco's Foreign Affairs Minister, Nasser Bourita. The fake account claimed that Morocco had pledged $1 billion to a Gaza reconstruction fund during a Peace Council meeting in Washington on February 19. Relying on this false information, the channel aired a segment on the matter, featuring Moroccan journalist Younès Meskine, publication director of TheVoice.ma. It was only after the program was broadcast that the editorial team realized the account was fake. In a subsequent statement, France 24 Arabic acknowledged the mistake: «On the evening of Monday, February 23, during our program «Face à Face», we aired a tweet attributed to the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs. It was later revealed that the tweet did not originate from him but from a fake account on the platform X, and we shared it by mistake. We apologize for this oversight.» Moroccan diplomacy communicates exclusively through its official accounts on Facebook and X.
