DR ‹ › On Wednesday, April 8, the Polisario Front marks the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic» (SADR), first declared on February 27, 1976, in Algeria. The celebrations are unfolding in the Aousserd camp on Algerian soil, far from the so-called «liberated territories» claimed by the movement. Since November 13, 2020, drone operations by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have compelled the Polisario to relocate this event to Algeria. Within the Front, dissenting voices are criticizing the millions of dollars being spent on these celebrations. Significant financial resources have been allocated to host foreign delegations in the Tindouf camps and to finance ceremonies held by the movement's international representations, often in luxury hotels. Dissident members, who oppose Brahim Ghali's leadership, argue that these funds should have been directed toward humanitarian needs. Said Zarwal, based in Sweden, contends that the resources should have been used to support the approximately 1,500 families impacted by recent floods in the Dakhla camp near Tindouf. Meanwhile, the Polisario is appealing to donor countries and international organizations for aid for those affected. On the same day, the Polisario also staged a military parade in the Aousserd camp in Algeria.
