DR ‹ › A delegation from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs arrived this evening at Laayoune airport on a diplomatic mission focused on monitoring MINURSO operations. The visit includes meetings with the head of the mission and the commander of the UN peacekeeping forces deployed in the region. The delegation is mainly composed of diplomats specializing in UN affairs, drawn from the ministry in Paris and France's permanent mission to the United Nations in New York. The political advisor at the French Embassy in Rabat is also part of the delegation. The visit comes two weeks ahead of the UN Security Council's scheduled review on April 30 of a proposal to revise MINURSO's mandate, in line with Resolution 2797 adopted on October 31, 2025. A United Nations delegation previously visited the Sahara from March 30 to April 6 to assess the mission's activities since its establishment in 1991. That visit followed an earlier trip by representatives of the U.S. administration to Laayoune, conducted with the same objective.
