DR ‹ › Philippe Lalliot is poised to become the new French ambassador to Morocco. Reports from Africa Intelligence this Tuesday indicate that President Emmanuel Macron has selected him to replace Christophe Lecourtier, who will be assuming the leadership of the French Development Agency (AFD). An experienced diplomat, Philippe Lalliot has been leading the Crisis and Support Center (CDCS) at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs since 2023. His appointment in Rabat coincides with a period where diplomatic relations between France and Morocco are described as «normalized and calm», according to the same source. Throughout his distinguished career, Lalliot has held ambassadorial roles in Senegal (2019-2023), the Netherlands (2016-2019), and UNESCO (2013-2016). In this new role, Philippe Lalliot is expected to «further strengthen the resumption of diplomatic relations» with Morocco. Rabat and Paris are anticipated to finalize a strategic partnership agreement this year, a project announced by Emmanuel Macron during his state visit to Morocco in October 2024.
