On Friday, Moroccan inventor Fouad Faqiri won the gold medal at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF), held in the South Korean capital from November 27 to 30. During the event, Faqiri also received an honorary award from «Citizen Innovation», a Singaporean alliance dedicated to promoting innovators, as well as the «Innovation Icon» title awarded by the Malaysian Ministry of Defense. The prize-winning Moroccan project, which was the sole African representative at the Seoul fair, features a device for generating clean electrical energy with higher efficiency than conventional solar and wind technologies. This invention was officially patented on November 30, 2023. Modular and available in different sizes, the device—prototypes of which are currently under development—is designed to convert gravitational and magnetic energy into mechanical energy, which is then transformed into green, sustainable electrical power. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60% to 70% over the next 20 years. In a statement, Faqiri expressed his deep pride in receiving this prestigious award as well as in representing Morocco at international scientific forums. He highlighted that his invention has garnered global recognition, earning accolades at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Kuwait, the Geneva Salon, and the Tokyo International Exhibition of Inventions, where he won both the gold medal and the grand prize. Additionally, the invention was awarded a prize at the 9th International Exhibition of Inventions held from October 2 to 6 in Adana, Turkey. The SIIF brought together over 400 inventors, primarily from Korea, China, and other East Asian countries, along with Arab delegations, including participants from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
