Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita visited Moldova on Tuesday, April 15, for a working visit marked by a significant diplomatic development: the Moldovan government announced its support for Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara, first presented in 2007. Chisinau described the plan as «the most serious and credible basis» for resolving the dispute. This backing was formalized in a joint statement issued after talks between Bourita and his Moldovan counterpart, Mihai Popșoi. Although not a member of the European Union, Moldova also expressed its «full support for Morocco's sincere efforts» to reach a resolution on the Sahara issue. The Moldovan Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country's commitment to the UN-led process, aimed at achieving a just, pragmatic, sustainable, and mutually acceptable political solution. According to sources consulted by Yabiladi, two additional European countries are expected to announce their support for Morocco's autonomy initiative in the coming days.
