The Ceuta Football Federation's celebration of a local club's promotion to Spain's second division was marred by controversy following a report from Catalan sports outlet Mundo Deportivo. The outlet described the team as the «third club of Moroccan origin», referencing historical cases such as Atlético de Tetuán and AgD Ceuta. The Ceuta Football Federation expressed its «profound indignation» over the characterization. «Ceuta is Spain. Our city is as Spanish as Barbate, La Rioja, Asturias, or Madrid—just like our clubs, our athletes, and our institutions», the Federation stated. It added that «there is no room for ambiguous interpretations or erroneous references when it comes to a territory that is fully, legitimately, and proudly part of the Spanish State». The Federation also criticized Mundo Deportivo's wording as «particularly painful», denouncing the description as «inaccurate and offensive» and calling for «an immediate correction of the headline by the Catalan outlet, in line with the fundamental principles of journalistic rigor and institutional respect». Mundo Deportivo has since addressed the issue, publishing a new article on the Ceuta club's promotion—this time without any mention of Morocco or Moroccan origins.
