Swedish bearing and seal manufacturing company SKF has opened a new factory in Tangier, dedicated to manufacturing components for magnetic bearings and high-speed electric motors. The facility, which will initially employ around 60 people, is part of SKF's strategy to meet increasing global demand for frictionless, energy-efficient solutions while reinforcing its leadership in this field, reads a press release by the company on Tuesday. The Tangier factory will produce modular and scalable products that integrate easily into compressors, turbines, electric motors, HVAC systems, and semiconductor applications. Magnetic solutions are vital for high-speed machinery due to their ability to operate without friction, require minimal maintenance, and deliver greater energy efficiency. «We are excited about the economic and competitive advantages this new facility will bring, positioning SKF as a key partner in the sustainability transformation. By enhancing our supply chain, we can reduce lead times, improve customer delivery performance, and offer competitive solutions», said Thomas Fröst, President, Independent and Emerging Business. SKF's magnetic bearings allow contactless rotor levitation through controlled magnetic fields, enabling superior performance, reliability, and a reduced carbon footprint by eliminating the need for lubrication. The Tangier facility will play a critical role in advancing these technologies to support sustainable industrial applications worldwide, the company concluded.
