On Sunday, in coordination with Khouribga authorities and based on precise intelligence from the Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire (DGST), police officers from the Oued Zem Regional Security Directorate thwarted an attempt to traffic 3.85 tonnes of chira and arrested four individuals linked to an international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking network. According to a security source, the suspects—aged between 23 and 35—were caught in the act while transporting the drugs in two utility vehicles during simultaneous security operations near Oued Zem. Armed with bladed weapons, they refused to comply with police orders and violently resisted arrest. Officers were ultimately able to apprehend them and seize the drugs. During the operation, one suspect's refusal to comply and violent resistance forced a police officer to fire a warning shot from his service weapon to neutralize the threat. Searches of the vehicles uncovered several bundles of chira totaling 3.85 tonnes, along with bladed weapons and fake license plates. A check of the suspects in the Sûreté Nationale database revealed that two of them were already wanted on multiple national warrants for alleged involvement in drug trafficking and violent crime. The suspects were placed in custody for a judicial investigation under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor. The inquiry aims to uncover any additional connections to the trafficking network and identify potential accomplices.
