Morocco will conduct the moon sighting for the month of Dhu al-Hijjah on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. According to a statement posted on its website on Monday, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has urged Islamic Affairs delegates across the Kingdom to observe the crescent moon on Tuesday evening, and report the results of the sighting. Eid al-Adha, which usually falls on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah, will be officially confirmed based on this moon sighting. However, this year, Moroccans will not perform the traditional Eid al-Adha sacrifice. Earlier in 2025, King Mohammed VI urged citizens to forgo the yearly sacrifice due to the country's ongoing economic and climate-related challenges, which have caused a sharp decline in livestock numbers.
