Spanish National Police in Asturias have arrested a Moroccan citizen who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Moroccan authorities. He is suspected of involvement in a human trafficking case in Morocco, according to Spanish media. Moroccan authorities informed their Spanish counterparts that the individual is believed to be a member of a criminal network involved in irregular migration and human trafficking within Moroccan territory. The arrest took place on June 9 in the town of Pola de Siero, carried out by officers from the local unit of the Spanish National Police. Following an investigation that led to his location, it was confirmed that the man was wanted for extradition to Morocco. The day after his arrest, he was transferred to Madrid and placed at the disposal of the Fourth Investigative Chamber of the Spanish National Court. The operation was conducted under strict confidentiality, with details only made public on Wednesday. Police authorities in Asturias confirmed that, based on the evidence presented and in line with the principle of reciprocity with Morocco, the court ordered the suspect to be held in preventive detention as a precautionary measure while extradition proceedings are underway.
