The General Council of Dentists in Spain has issued a warning about a growing trend on social media, especially on TikTok. The trend features promotional offers from companies organizing package trips to Morocco that include flights, accommodation, cultural activities and dental or cosmetic procedures, such as the application of composite resin veneers. The council urged the public to approach these offers with caution and to always prioritize safety and quality of care. Its president, Óscar Castro Reino, warned that many of these procedures are carried out in just a few hours, leaving little time for thorough diagnosis or personalized treatment planning. «Every treatment involves risks», he said. «If a patient's oral health isn't properly assessed, complications such as sensitivity, gum problems, or even tooth loss can arise, either shortly after the procedure or further down the line. Traveling abroad for medical treatment isn't an adventure, it's reckless», he told Spanish media. He also noted that dental clinics in other countries may not follow the same strict regulations as in Spain, where there are clear legal standards, routine health inspections, and mandatory registration with the professional dental body, ensuring a higher level of safety and treatment guarantees. «If something goes wrong, patients in Spain can turn to their dentist for follow-up care», he explained. «But if problems arise after treatment in Morocco, it's unclear who would be held accountable».
