The King's Prosecutor at the Beni Mellal Court of Appeal has confirmed that the death of man who threw himself from the top of a water tank in the territorial commune of Oulad Youssef was caused by a rupture of the spinal cord at the neck, a severed carotid artery, tearing of surrounding muscles, and a fractured hyoid bone, injuries resulting from hanging with a rope he had tied around his neck. In a statement, the King's Prosecutor explained that the individual had previously staged a sit-in on the roof of the water tank, during which he struck a civil protection officer, a member of the national rescue services, using a metal object, stripped him of his clothes, tied him up with a rope, and threw him from the top of the tank. The victim was caught by a shock-absorbing airbag and taken to a clinic, where he was treated for multiple fractures and remains under medical care. Following this incident, specialized units from the Royal Gendarmerie were dispatched to bring the man down due to the threat he posed to himself and others. However, he resisted fiercely, throwing metal objects at the intervention team and seriously injuring one officer with a deep facial wound. As gendarmerie members approached the roof using hydraulic lifts, the man threw himself from the top while still tied by the neck to an iron ladder. One of the officers cut the rope, and the man was caught by the airbag placed below to save him. He was transported to the hospital and admitted to intensive care, where he remained until he passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The Public Prosecution ordered a forensic autopsy, carried out by a tripartite medical committee. The committee concluded that the cause of death was consistent with hanging: spinal cord rupture at the neck, severed carotid artery, torn surrounding muscles, and a fractured hyoid bone. The Attorney General also clarified that, contrary to circulating rumors, the individual had not staged the sit-in in connection with suspicions about his father's death in 2019. He had never filed any complaint regarding that matter.
