On Thursday, July 24, in Rabat, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch presided over the signing ceremony of a landmark strategic memorandum of understanding between the government and the National Airports Authority (ONDA). Spanning the period from 2025 to 2030 and backed by a substantial investment of 38 billion dirhams, the initiative aims to «enhance the capacities of airports in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, and Fez» and to «construct a new HUB terminal and runway at Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport, with a budget of 25 billion dirhams», according to an official statement. An additional 13 billion dirhams will be allocated to maintenance, modernization, and land acquisition. In this context, «ONDA is committed to ushering in a new era of public service centered on excellence, innovation, and positive impact». The Head of Government also emphasized the importance of «supporting development dynamics and preparing the air transport sector» to meet future challenges. The agreement is intended to «establish the foundations of a modern, resilient, and sustainable airport model», in line with the Airport 2030 strategy to accommodate growing air traffic. It also seeks to position the sector as a driver of tourism development, particularly in the lead-up to the 2030 World Cup and «Morocco's vision beyond 2030». The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy; the Minister of Transport and Logistics; the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget; the Director General of the National Strategic Management Agency for State Holdings; and the Director General of ONDA.
