Morocco is steadily expanding its presence in Denmark's fresh tomato market, with exports reaching 1,660 metric tons during the first 10 months of the current marketing year, spanning from July 2024 to June 2025. According to EastFruit, this represents a 32% increase compared to the previous marketing year and a 67% rise over 2022/23. Over the past three marketing years, Morocco has expanded its tomato shipments to Denmark nearly sixfold. Tomatoes constitute Morocco's leading fruit and vegetable export, accounting for over 25% of the sector's foreign currency earnings. While Denmark remains a minor destination compared to France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands (representing less than 1% of Morocco's total tomato exports), the consistent growth trend signals Denmark's emerging importance in Morocco's diversification strategy. Moroccan tomatoes have been shipped to Denmark monthly over the past three marketing years without clear seasonal peaks. Peak volumes occurred in February during 2022/23 and in April in 2023/24. Notably, October recorded the lowest exports in 2023/24 but reached record highs in the current marketing year. Morocco's market share in Denmark has surged from under 1% in 2021/22 to 3.7% in 2023/24, now exceeding 5%. The Netherlands and Spain remain Denmark's primary suppliers, though their volumes have declined recently. Morocco competes with France, Germany, and Italy, and current trends suggest it could surpass Italy to enter Denmark's top five tomato suppliers. Morocco has been the only non-European country supplying tomatoes to Denmark over the past two marketing years, while also setting new export records to Norway. Beyond tomatoes, Morocco exports pickled vegetables, watermelons, almonds, and strawberries to Denmark.
