The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) are reportedly in talks to acquire Israeli drones, specifically the Harpy and Harop models. «Negotiations between the Moroccan side and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a state-owned company that manufactures these drones, began several months ago. The deal could exceed $100 million», a Moroccan source told Yabiladi. The Harpy drone is a kamikaze model designed to target radar systems and neutralize enemy air defenses (SEAD), carrying an explosive payload. The Harop, also known as the Harpy 2, is primarily used as a munition and does not carry an offensive charge. Following the signing of a military and security cooperation agreement between Morocco and Israel in Rabat in November 2021, the FAR had already ordered 150 WanderB and ThunderB drones in 2022. These are produced by Blue Bird, a company in which IAI holds a 50% stake. Beyond direct acquisitions, Morocco is also aiming to develop its own drone manufacturing capabilities. Israeli and Turkish firms are working with the kingdom to advance this strategic military project. In addition, the Royal Armed Forces are exploring opportunities in the Chinese drone market.
