This week, the Moroccan YouTuber A.B, known online as «Ibn Nasnas», embarked on a daring and high-stakes mission to the Chafarinas Islands, territories currently under Spanish control. Hailing from Rabat, he successfully evaded the Spanish army's surveillance systems to document his venture. After swimming a challenging 4 km, the young man reached a rocky outcrop where the Spanish military reportedly inters its deceased. In a mark of respect, A.B offered a military salute, stating, «To show that we are Muslims who respect their religion. Our issue is not religious but political.» The video opens with two politically charged messages: the Spanish army's deployment to the Leila islet in June 2002, and the August 2024 visit by Defense Minister Margarita Robles to these contested rocks. Following this, A.B made his way to another islet, where the Spanish military has established a biological laboratory. This is not the first time the Moroccan YouTuber has undertaken such ventures; he previously conducted similar incursions on the Alhucemas and Bades islands, also under Spanish control, in 2022 and June 2023, respectively. For context, the Spanish government earmarked 600,000 euros in 2024 to bolster the defense of these islets. Defense Minister Margarita Robles visited Ceuta and Melilla, in addition to the disputed rocks, in August 2024. «Ibn Nasnas»'s operation has yet to be claimed by any Moroccan organization. This bold move comes two weeks after Alvise Pérez, a Member of the European Parliament and Secretary-General of the political party «Se Acabó La Fiesta» (The Party's Over), planted the Spanish flag on the El Mar islet.
