In 2023, five regions in Morocco posted GDP growth rates above the national average of 3.7%, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP). The regions leading the way were Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (10.1%), Fès-Meknès (8.9%), Marrakech-Safi (6.3%), Casablanca-Settat (5%), and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (4.9%), the HCP reported in its newly released note on regional accounts for 2023. Dakhla-Oued Eddahab's strong momentum was mainly driven by maritime fishing, as well as construction and public works (BTP). The Fès-Meknès region benefited from solid growth in agriculture and services, while Marrakech-Safi saw a marked rebound in accommodation and food services. Casablanca-Settat and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima were supported by the performance of manufacturing industries and services. Five other regions recorded positive growth, though below the national average: Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (2.9%), Souss-Massa (1.8%), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (0.7%), Guelmim-Oued Noun (1.2%), and Drâa-Tafilalet (1.5%). By contrast, Beni Mellal-Khénifra saw GDP contract by 1.3% due to a steep drop in agricultural output, while the Oriental region's GDP declined by 1% following a sharp fall in farm production.
