The National Railway Office (ONCF) has launched major works in the Casablanca region as part of the Kenitra–Marrakech High-Speed Rail (LGV) project, with the aim of providing infrastructure suited to current and future needs, particularly along the Mohammedia–Nouaceur axis. According to an ONCF press release, the project involves adding tracks to reach a total of six: two for high-speed trains, two for commuter trains, and two for conventional services. This expansion will require widening at least 40 structures across the Casablanca prefecture. The works also include installing a next-generation signaling system, building new high-speed and commuter stations, laying 600 kilometers of electrified track, and constructing nine maintenance and technical centers for rolling stock. Scheduled to run from September 2025 through late 2027, the project will be carried out in multiple phases, each requiring tailored transport plans, including night and daytime work intervals. These phases will temporarily affect travel times for certain trains and may require the temporary closure of some stations, such as Mers Sultan, which will undergo renovation. The first phase, starting September 15, will introduce a global adjustment of passenger train schedules while maintaining the usual service offering. To minimize the impact of these works on an active network, ONCF has adopted strict planning and will deploy experienced personnel alongside exceptional technical resources. The Office assured that all necessary measures are in place to guarantee continuous service under optimal comfort and safety conditions. From Monday, September 8, a special system will be rolled out, including increased passenger assistance at major stations and a dedicated communication plan to provide updates on service adjustments and project progress. Information will be shared through all official ONCF channels: the sales website www.oncf-voyages.ma, the customer relations center 2255, the ONCF Voyages app, the official ONCF WhatsApp channel (https://bit.ly/461PfEu), and the M'ONCF chatbot at 06 67 65 22 55. Launched on April 24, 2025 by King Mohammed VI, the Kenitra–Marrakech LGV has now entered a key stage, with works advancing at full speed and reflecting Morocco's broader modernization drive. Extending the first Tangier–Kenitra high-speed line by an additional 430 kilometers, the new section will unify the country's major north–south axes. Once completed, the line will connect Tangier to Marrakech in just 2 hours and 40 minutes, delivering fast, smooth, and sustainable mobility. Beyond its technical achievement, the project will also connect strategic hubs such as airports and stadiums, while strengthening links between urban centers.
