Morocco and the European Union concluded negotiations in Brussels on Morocco's extended participation in the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) for 2025–2027, reads a press release by the European Commission. Signed Monday, the agreement was initialled by Morocco's Ambassador to the EU, Ahmed Reda Chami, and Nienke Buisman, Head of Unit for International Cooperation at the European Commission's DG Research and Innovation. Once in force, the deal will allow Moroccan universities, research centres, foundations and businesses to fully participate in PRIMA projects, addressing challenges such as water scarcity, agriculture and food security. Morocco will contribute €6.6 million to the partnership between 2025 and 2027, alongside EU funding. Since joining PRIMA in 2018, Morocco has taken part in 132 of 269 funded projects, worth €25.1 million, with €12.3 million provided by the EU and €12.8 million by Morocco. It coordinates four projects and ranks fifth among 20 PRIMA members, making it one of the best performers in the South Mediterranean.
