On Monday in New York, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held a working session with Staffan de Mistura, the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for the Sahara, at de Mistura's request. The meeting was attended by Morocco's ambassador and permanent representative to the UN, Omar Hilale, and forms part of de Mistura's consultations ahead of upcoming UN Security Council deadlines. On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation reaffirmed the unwavering principles of Morocco's position, as set out by King Mohammed VI, based solely on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, within the framework of the Kingdom's sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also reiterated Morocco's support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy. The discussion additionally reviewed recent developments in the international momentum backing the Moroccan identity of the Sahara and supporting the Autonomy Initiative as the sole and unique basis for a political solution to the regional dispute, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts.
