Melilla reported that a rabid dog entered from Morocco through the Beni Ansar crossing, the city's fifth such case since the start of 2025. Local media say the dog was captured after roaming the streets and taken to a shelter and observation center, where it showed signs of rabies before dying on September 11. The National Center for Microbiology confirmed the infection on September 16 following laboratory tests. Health authorities urge anyone bitten or who may have had contact with the dog's saliva to promptly visit the General Directorate of Public Health or contact local police to assess the need for preventive treatment.
