Moroccan police officers at Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport arrested on Tuesday, October 7, a 32-year-old French citizen of Algerian origin who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities. According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the suspect's identity was confirmed after being cross-checked in the Interpol database, which revealed that he was wanted internationally at the request of the National Central Bureau in Paris for alleged involvement in a case of kidnapping, detention, and death threats. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect had kidnapped a Belgian national in Brussels in 2024 before holding him in France as part of a violent score-settling between international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking networks. The suspect has been placed under extradition procedures in accordance with the instructions of the competent public prosecutor's office. Meanwhile, Morocco's National Central Bureau—Interpol Rabat—has notified its French counterpart of the arrest pending extradition proceedings. The DGSN emphasized that this arrest reflects the commitment of Moroccan security services to strengthening mechanisms of international security cooperation, particularly in tracking and apprehending internationally wanted suspects involved in transnational organized crime.
