Fifty Amazigh associations from Morocco and abroad have submitted a petition to Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, calling for the implementation of the Amazigh language in the federation's activities. The petition, submitted ahead of Morocco's hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup, highlights the absence of Amazigh on team jerseys, official logos, and stadium facades across multiple Moroccan cities, in both old and newly constructed facilities. The associations cite Morocco's 2011 constitution, which recognizes Amazigh as an official language, and organic law 26-16 ratified in October 2019. Article 27 of this law mandates bilingual signage in Arabic and Amazigh on public facilities, including sports installations and transportation vehicles. The petition requests that national team jerseys, federation buses, and stadium signage display both official languages. Additionally, the associations call for the inclusion of Amazigh-speaking sports journalists and commentators in national and international sporting events. The signatories, including the World Amazigh Congress and confederations from Germany, Spain, the United States, and various Moroccan regions, have requested a meeting with Lekjaa to discuss implementation strategies for the organic law within the federation's operations.
