The primary criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal in El Jadida has sentenced a married driver working with the InDrive transportation app to two months in prison. The verdict follows a complaint filed by a woman in her twenties who accused him of raping her inside his car. However, the court later dropped the rape charge due to a lack of evidence and instead convicted him of engaging in sexual relations outside marriage, according to Assabah newspaper. The Royal Gendarmerie in Sidi Bouzid arrested the driver after the woman reported that he had lured her to a deserted area at night, where she was allegedly assaulted by him and an accomplice. She later recognized the driver near a restaurant and alerted private security guards, who detained him until the gendarmerie arrived. He was then placed in provisional custody, and his vehicle was impounded. The accused denied any assault, claiming that the encounter was consensual and involved a financial agreement, after which he drove the woman back to her apartment in El Jadida. After reviewing the case, the court acquitted him of rape and sentenced him to two months in prison for having sexual relations outside marriage while being married.
