In a landmark address following the UN Security Council's new resolution on the Sahara, King Mohammed VI hailed it as a pivotal moment in Moroccan history, coinciding with the nation's celebrations of the Green March and Independence anniversaries. He seized the moment to address messages both to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and to the population of the Tindouf camps. Just after the adoption of a new UN Security Council resolution on the Sahara, King Mohammed VI delivered a speech marking what he described as a historic turning point for Morocco. «It is a true source of pride that this historic change coincides with the celebrations of the fiftieth and seventieth anniversaries of the Green March and Morocco's Independence», the Sovereign declared. The King expressed his satisfaction with the content of the resolution, describing it as a defining moment in modern Moroccan history. «We are living in a pivotal moment, from now on, there will be a before and after October 31, 2025. The time has come for a united Morocco, stretching from Tangier to Lagouira, where no one will dare infringe upon its rights or violate its historical borders». He emphasized that the momentum achieved in recent years is now «bearing fruit across all fronts», noting that two-thirds of UN member states now recognize the Autonomy Initiative as «the only viable framework» for resolving the dispute. A New Phase in the UN Process King Mohammed VI stressed that Morocco is entering «the decisive phase» of the UN process, with the latest resolution laying out the «principles and foundations» for a definitive political settlement «in full respect of Morocco's legitimate rights». The Sovereign reaffirmed Morocco's readiness to contribute constructively to this final stage, announcing that the Kingdom will update and refine its Autonomy Plan before submitting it to the United Nations. «As a realistic and applicable solution, it should constitute the sole basis for negotiation», he said. Messages of Gratitude The King expressed «particular gratitude» to the United States of America, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, «whose efforts have paved the way for a definitive settlement of this conflict». He also thanked the United Kingdom, Spain, and particularly France, for their role in advancing the peace process, along with Arab and African allies and «countries around the world that support the Autonomy Initiative». Reiterating his July 29 message, the King underscored the importance of achieving «a solution that preserves the dignity of all parties, without winners or losers». «Morocco does not view these developments as a trophy, nor does it seek to deepen divisions or antagonisms», he affirmed. The King extended a heartfelt invitation to «our brothers in the Tindouf camps» to seize this historic opportunity and embrace the Autonomy Initiative: «It offers them the means to take part in local governance, contribute to national development, and build their future within a united Morocco». He concluded by reaffirming equality among all Moroccans, «those who have returned from the Tindouf camps and their brothers throughout the national territory», and by inviting Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to engage in «a fraternal and sincere dialogue» to lay the groundwork for new relations of trust, brotherhood, and good-neighborliness between the two countries.
