On Thursday, Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tahraoui inaugurated the new Tarfaya Regional Hospital and officially launched its services. The ceremony also included the opening of the «Cooperation» first-level urban health center in Laayoune. These initiatives form part of the royal vision to reform the national health system and advance the project for universal health coverage and social protection. The event was attended by the Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Abdel Salam Bekrat, the governor of Tarfaya province, Mohamed Hmime, and several elected officials. Built on an 8-hectare site with 7,300 square meters of covered space, the Tarfaya Regional Hospital cost 60 million dirhams and offers a capacity of 70 beds, serving more than 16,400 residents. Its medical team includes 102 professionals : 13 doctors, 60 nurses and medical assistants, and 29 administrative and technical staff. According to the Ministry of Health, the new hospital will help ease the pressure on other facilities in the region and reduce the need for patients to travel to neighboring provinces for treatment. In Laayoune, the newly opened «Cooperation» urban health center will serve around 20,400 residents. The facility provides a wide range of services, including emergency care, maternity services, general medical examinations, nursing treatments, chronic disease monitoring, and maternal, child, and school health programs. It is also equipped with modern medical technology and an electronic medical record system to ensure continuous and coordinated patient care. Minister Tahraoui also visited the renovated «Tahat» rural health center in Tarfaya province, upgraded at a cost of 2.6 million dirhams. The center now serves 894 residents and has been equipped with new medical devices, nursing staff, and an electronic medical records system to enhance efficiency and quality of care.
