King Mohammed VI inaugurated the Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat, a state-of-the-art medical and academic complex designed to offer world-class healthcare and training. The Monarch also ordered the opening of the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir, a new center of medical excellence that will serve the Souss-Massa region and reinforce Morocco's health infrastructure. King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, presided on Monday over the inauguration of the Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat, a flagship facility designed to deliver world-class healthcare and high-level training in medical professions. On the same day, the King gave his high instructions to open the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir, a new medical hub of excellence that is expected to bring a major leap forward in healthcare services and medical training in the Souss-Massa region. Built by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, the Rabat complex embodies a new era of modern, intelligent hospital infrastructure, reflecting the King's vision and commitment to ensuring equitable access to next-generation healthcare across Morocco. The hospital integrates advanced medical technologies and research facilities to provide high-quality, inclusive care, while also serving as a premier training and innovation center for healthcare professionals. Constructed on a 280,000-square-meter site, the complex includes two complementary structures: The Mohammed VI International University Hospital (190,000 m²) and the Mohammed VI University of Science and Health – Rabat (90,000 m²) Cutting-edge medical and research infrastructure With an initial capacity of 600 beds, expandable to 1,000, the hospital houses over 30 centers of excellence across medical and surgical specialties, including robotic surgery, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, oncology, radiotherapy, and precision imaging. It features 24 state-of-the-art operating rooms, including hybrid and robotic theaters, and 143 critical-care beds, among them 30 neonatal intensive care incubators. The facility is equipped with the first combined PET-MRI scanner in Morocco and Africa, a 3-Tesla MRI system, an advanced radiotherapy platform, a robotic hospital pharmacy, and a simulation center. Innovative services include a severe burns treatment unit and Morocco's only hyperbaric medicine department, dedicated to advanced medical care and physiological research. The hospital also boasts Africa's first fully automated laboratory platform, covering all stages of biological testing, and Morocco's first digital pathology lab, ensuring precise tracking and high-quality diagnostics. Designed with patients at its core, the hospital offers integrated, personalized care pathways that prioritize comfort, safety, and quality. It also serves as a training platform for students of the Mohammed VI University of Science and Health, giving them hands-on experience in cutting-edge clinical and technological environments. Training the next generation of healthcare professionals The Mohammed VI University of Science and Health, Rabat, the academic arm of the complex, strengthens Morocco's human capital in healthcare—one of the key pillars of the national health reform. The university includes 15 lecture halls (capacity 4,000 seats), 72 classrooms, and 217 practical training rooms, accommodating up to 8,000 students. Committed to sustainability, the complex earned an «Excellent» HQE (High Environmental Quality) certification. It is equipped with 8,800 m² of photovoltaic panels that cover over 10% of its energy needs, reducing carbon emissions by 40%. Agadir University Hospital open to the public As for the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir, which the King ordered to open to the public, the facility spans 30 hectares (127,000 m² covered) and is located near the city's Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. Built at a cost of 3.1 billion dirhams, the hospital has a total capacity of 867 beds and includes several medical hubs : Mother and Child, Medicine and Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology, among others. It also features a central surgical unit (19 operating rooms), five emergency theaters, a burn treatment ward, laboratories, a central pharmacy, and an integrated training and simulation system. The Agadir facility is the first hospital in Africa to incorporate robotic surgery technology, enabling minimally invasive procedures with exceptional precision and 3D visualization, offering unprecedented comfort for both surgeons and patients.
