The Polisario Front has struggled to secure enough backing within the British Parliament to initiate a debate on the Western Sahara issue, particularly one that would involve ministers from the Labour government. Faced with this lack of support, the movement settled for a modest gathering yesterday in a small room within the House of Commons, attended by just one MP, Ben Lake, who is known for his pro-Polisario stance, led by Brahim Ghali. Mark Luetchford, the president of the UK Western Sahara Campaign, an NGO noted for its complaints against Moroccan agricultural exports, attended the meeting alongside a union member from Britain and Polisario representatives based in Europe and Ireland. The meeting concluded with Mark Luetchford pledging to rally British MPs to establish «a parliamentary friendship group with the Sahrawi people», according to reports from Polisario media. This gathering, held on Wednesday, is part of ongoing efforts by the Front's supporters within the British Parliament to advance its agenda. Just last week, they organized a photo exhibition at the Parliament's headquarters to showcase the «culture of the Sahrawi people». It's noteworthy that on October 27, Morocco's allies in the House of Lords orchestrated a focused debate on the connections between the Polisario and Iran, attended by Baroness Chapman of Darlington, Minister of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
