Diaspo #415 : El Hassan Madani, a Moroccan craftsman helping shape Saudi Arabia's vision 2030
Publié dans Yabiladi le 15 - 11 - 2025

El Hassan Khanous Madani's journey from Fez to Riyadh is a testament to the power of ambition and adaptability. From his modest beginnings in Morocco's woodworking sector to representing a major Chinese company in Saudi Arabia, Madani has consistently turned challenges into opportunities, driven by a passion for design and a commitment to quality.
Growing up in Fez in the 1960s, El Hassan Khanous Madani was shaped by an environment that blended deep-rooted traditions with a genuine openness to progress and creativity. His childhood was marked by experiences that forged his character, from the education he received to the values instilled by his family and community.
«I grew up in an environment that values hard work and encourages ambition», he told Yabiladi in a candid interview. «That helped me develop my passion for interior decoration and design from an early age. Morocco's rich cultural diversity played a crucial role in broadening my horizons and strengthening my ability to communicate with people of different backgrounds».
His school years were particularly formative. At Moulay Idriss High School in Fez, one of the most prominent schools of that period, he built a strong scientific foundation that would later guide his professional path, sharpening both his curiosity and his drive.
Madani's career began in Morocco with modest but steady steps in the woodworking sector. The experience taught him discipline, responsibility, and how to tackle challenges, skills that would become the backbone of his professional evolution.
«Over time», he says, «I felt that moving to Saudi Arabia would open up broader horizons and greater opportunities for growth. That proved true when I later studied interior design at a specialized engineering institute in Saudi Arabia».
A Turning Point in Riyadh
When he moved to Riyadh in 1988, Madani met people who profoundly shaped his mindset and professional style. His family continued to be his anchor, instilling commitment, patience, and respect for work. Professionally, his first manager, a Lebanese national, had a lasting impact, teaching him «the importance of strategic thinking, confident decision-making, and facing challenges with a positive spirit».
He adds that influence doesn't come only from people, but also from the experiences one accumulates over time. Madani explains: «I started my business activities in the home furniture sector fairly early, driven by a real passion for craftsmanship and a desire to manage work in a way that satisfies clients, not just to remain within the limits of a traditional job».
The beginning, he says, was humble but rich in lessons. He experimented, took risks, and learned from both successes and setbacks. Resources were limited, networks had to be built from scratch, and understanding the market required time. But perseverance, continuous learning, and adaptability helped him overcome these obstacles.
He made a point of visiting international furniture and interior design exhibitions, trips that broadened his perspective and gave him confidence as an entrepreneur. Looking back, he says those early years shaped the mindset he carries today: one focused on opportunity, innovation, and continuous effort.
Since 2022, Madani has been the representative of a major Chinese company with four factories in Saudi Arabia: DSCC Saudia. The company specializes in contracting, engineering, and integrated solutions, from design to execution, for major interior and exterior projects, working with leading institutions and hotels across the Kingdom.
Today, he focuses on hotel-furniture projects, a growing sector aligned with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and the country's expanding tourism ambitions.
Before joining the Chinese group, he worked at The Danish House from 1988 to 1993, then as sales manager at Al Manzel from 1993 to 2003. He later served as project manager at Arabian Gulf Furniture Company (2003–2013) and then as the Saudi representative for the German firm Mercatus between 2013 and 2022.
Madani has taken part in major projects, including large palaces for high-profile clients, and regularly showcases his expertise at international furniture fairs in Italy, Germany, Spain, Turkey, and beyond.
«For me», he says, «success is not just about a title or financial gain. It's about turning ideas into reality and creating a positive impact, on a team, a project, or society as a whole».
«I consider myself successful when I achieve my goals while staying true to the values I believe in honesty, diligence, and a commitment to quality», he said. «Success also means learning continuously, adapting, and helping others succeed. True achievement is always tied to the value you bring to people around you», he added.
Madani now seeks to channel the expertise he built in Saudi Arabia toward sustainable projects that strengthen economic ties between the Kingdom and Morocco. He actively works with Moroccan companies involved in exhibition organization and is committed to encouraging Saudi investment in Morocco.
