DR ‹ › Nine sub-Saharan migrants, including two young girls, died during a severe cold wave near the Moroccan-Algerian border, in the Ras Asfour town in the Jerada province, the Oujda branch of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) announced on Saturday. According to the association, the victims lost their lives this December as temperatures plummeted in the harsh, mountainous terrain, where their weakened bodies were unable to withstand the extreme cold. AMDH stated that six bodies were buried on December 12 in the Jerada cemetery, while two others were kept at the request of acquaintances after their identities were confirmed. A ninth body was discovered the same day. The association added that the identities of five victims remain unknown. AMDH also noted that the Public Prosecutor responded to its request not to bury the body of a Guinean migrant, following her family's appeal, until her identity is fully verified. The association expressed deep concern over these deaths, stressing that they once again highlight the precarious and dangerous conditions faced by migrants.
