DR ‹ › The National Rally of Independents (RNI) is accelerating its transition phase following the resignation of Aziz Akhannouch. The Party announced in a statement released on Monday that it is now accepting applications for the party presidency. An extraordinary congress is slated for February 7 in El Jadida, where the successor to Aziz Akhannouch will be chosen. In preparation for this event, the political bureau has also selected the members of the preparatory committee tasked with organizing the congress. The statement underscores that the RNI «will continue to support Aziz Akhannouch in his role as head of the government and will back the government majority through its parliamentary groups and various structures and bodies, ensuring the government can meet its contractual obligations and successfully implement its programs until the end of its constitutional mandate». On Sunday, Aziz Akhannouch announced his decision to step down as president of the RNI. He initially assumed leadership of the party in October 2016 and was re-elected to the position in March 2022.
