DR ‹ › The Tangier Public Prosecutor's Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of Samir Abdelmoula, the former mayor of Tangier and a member of the Justice and Development Party, in a case involving bounced checks. According to the newspaper Al Akhbar, it is believed that Abdelmoula is currently outside Morocco. Sources close to him are reportedly working to settle the outstanding amounts in a bid to prevent his arrest and subsequent imprisonment, echoing resolutions in similar past cases. Previously, Abdelmoula received a six-month suspended sentence and a fine of 3,000 dirhams after being charged with issuing checks without sufficient funds. He was also investigated by the Economic and Financial Division following a complaint from the Exchange Office regarding the launch of overseas investment projects without the required licenses. He was questioned and released on bail after settling the amounts related to the checks.
