DR ‹ › Gianni Infantino, FIFA's president, has weighed in on the chaos that marred the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, where Senegal claimed the title against Morocco, confirming that disciplinary measures are likely to follow the incidents that accompanied the match. Infantino condemned what he described as «unacceptable scenes» during the final, holding some Senegalese players and members of the technical staff responsible for leaving the pitch for several minutes during the game. «We strongly condemn the behavior of some Senegalese players and members of the technical staff. It is unacceptable to leave the pitch in this manner», the FIFA president said. Tensions also spilled into the stands, where Senegalese supporters attempted to storm the pitch for nearly 15 minutes, even as Brahim Diaz was preparing to take a penalty kick, which he ultimately missed. Organizers struggled to regain control amid clashes and confusion, with the intervention of security forces, as shown in several videos circulating on social media. Speaking to Agence France-Presse, Infantino stressed that «violence has no place in football», adding that «disrespecting referees' decisions, whether on or off the field, threatens the very essence of the game». He also urged CAF's disciplinary bodies to take «appropriate measures». Senegal went on to win the African title after defeating Morocco 1–0 after extra time, in a match overshadowed by major disruptions. The turmoil erupted after a late penalty was awarded to Morocco, moments after a Senegalese goal was ruled out, prompting several Senegalese players to walk off the pitch.
