DR ‹ › The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, has highlighted what he described as exemplary and effective cooperation with Morocco in managing migratory flows. Speaking to CNN on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai, the Spanish prime minister said that close coordination with Rabat has led to a «very significant» reduction in irregular arrivals on Spanish territory. He stressed that migration control is the result of joint efforts and close coordination with countries of origin and transit, identifying Morocco as a key strategic partner in this regional approach. According to the latest figures from Spain's Ministry of the Interior, irregular migrant arrivals fell by 42.6% in 2025, largely due to a sharp decline in flows along the Canary Islands route. Sánchez also noted that migration to Spain is primarily driven by the country's «economic strength and resilience», adding that around 90% of migrants enter through regular channels. He further pointed out that migrants contribute roughly 10% of Spain's social security revenues, while accounting for only 1% of total social security expenditures.
