DR ‹ › A magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck 27 kilometers northwest of Taounate in northern Morocco early Thursday morning, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The quake occurred at 3:54 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers, a shallow level that can make tremors more noticeable near the epicenter. A subsequent report by Portugal's Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) assessed the quake at magnitude 3.2, while Spain's National Geographic Institute (IGN) and the RaspberryShake citizen seismograph network both recorded it at magnitude 3.8. Weak tremors may have been felt in Ghafsai, about 12 kilometers from the epicenter, while very light shaking could have reached Taounate, Ain Aicha, Karia Ba Mohamed, Chefchaouen, Ouezzane, and Fes, up to 77 kilometers away, the report added.
