The Moroccan government has announced the allocation of direct financial aid to people affected by the recent floods in northern and western Morocco. Emergency payments will begin next week, with affected families advised to send an SMS to 1212, including their national ID details, to process their requests. DR ‹ › Direct financial aid of up to 6,000 dirhams per family, 15,000 dirhams for the rehabilitation of damaged homes and small businesses, and 140,000 dirhams for the reconstruction of collapsed houses form the core of a government support program launched following the recent floods in northern and western Morocco. Implemented in accordance with royal instructions, the program targets populations affected by the exceptional rainfall recorded over the past two months. According to a statement from the Head of Government's Department, all relevant ministries and public institutions have been mobilized to ensure the swift and effective rollout of the plan, which was developed after a detailed field assessment of damages and urgent needs. Emergency payments will begin next week. Heads of affected households must send an SMS to 1212, including their national electronic ID (CNIE) number and date of birth, to allow authorities to verify their situation and process requests as quickly as possible. Housing, business and impacted farmers As for housing and business rehabilitation, as well as reconstruction support, specialized commissions will conduct on-site assessments in the provinces declared disaster areas. Affected residents may submit their applications to the relevant committees, in line with existing legal procedures designed to ensure transparency and fairness. In the agricultural sector, impacted farmers will benefit from a spring planting program tailored to the specific conditions of the affected regions, covering oilseed, cereal, and forage crops. The initiative includes support for the purchase of seeds and fertilizers to help make up for lost time, alongside continued assistance for livestock breeders. On Thursday, King Mohammed VI instructed the government to implement a 3-billion-dirham support plan for families in the hardest-hit provinces of Larache, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane, which have been declared disaster areas. The plan allocates 775 million dirhams for rehousing, income loss, and the rehabilitation or reconstruction of damaged homes and small businesses; 225 million dirhams for emergency and in-kind aid; 300 million dirhams for farmers and livestock breeders; and 1.7 billion dirhams for the rehabilitation of road and hydro-agricultural infrastructure and basic networks. For the record, the exceptional rainfall flooded more than 110,000 hectares and displaced nearly 188,000 people.
