DR ‹ › In the coming months, Morocco and Belgium are poised to lay «the foundations of a security dialogue» aimed at coordinating their efforts against shared threats, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita announced on Monday. This declaration came during a joint press conference with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot. «These challenges necessitate close cooperation between our two countries», Bourita emphasized, highlighting the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, and transnational crime. He also underscored the importance of «preserving spiritual security» and preventing any manipulation of the Moroccan diaspora, ensuring they remain connected to their values and homeland. Maxime Prévot described this partnership as «strategic», emphasizing that enhanced cooperation between security and intelligence services is «precious and essential». He noted that Belgium and Morocco share concerns about radicalization and cross-border crime, stressing the need for regular, structured exchanges to anticipate and counter these threats. This initiative is part of an ongoing dynamic in 2024. In April, Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit met with his Belgian counterpart Annelies Verlinden. Subsequently, the Director-General of the DGSN and DGST hosted the Director-General of the Belgian State Security in Rabat, followed by Abdellatif Hammouchi's visit to Belgium in December. These meetings have paved the way for a robust bilateral partnership, now set to be formalized within a framework of regular dialogue.
