DR ‹ › A United Nations delegation tasked with reviewing the mandate of MINURSO has completed its visit to the Sahara, which took place from March 24 to 30, before continuing on to Nouakchott, Mauritania. There, the delegation held a series of meetings with senior civilian and military officials. The delegation was notably received by the Minister of Justice, Mohamed Ould Soueidatt, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Abdellah Mahmoud Ibrahim. Discussions focused on Mauritania's role as an observer in the context of the future mandate to be assigned to MINURSO in the coming months. At this stage, there has been no confirmation of a possible visit by the delegation to Algeria or the Tindouf camps, despite both being directly concerned with the UN mission's operations. Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General is expected to present a report on MINURSO to the Security Council in April, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2797 adopted on October 31. In addition, an American member of the delegation did not travel to Mauritania, remaining instead in Laayoune to continue consultations with MINURSO's civilian and military leadership.
