DR ‹ › Talks on Western Sahara, underway since Sunday at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, have led the parties involved to accept the roadmap proposed by the Trump administration, the Spanish daily El País reported on Monday evening. According to the newspaper, delegations from Morocco, Algeria, the Polisario Front, and Mauritania are expected to meet again in Washington in May in an effort to finalize a political agreement. El País notes, however, that the Madrid discussions ran into difficulties over the role of the permanent technical committee of experts, which is tasked with assessing Morocco's autonomy plan under U.S. auspices. The daily also points out that «the future of MINURSO was not discussed during these negotiations». In line with UN Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, the UN Secretary-General is due to submit a report in April on the future of the UN mission. The U.S.-led dialogue in Madrid forms part of the framework set by Resolution 2797, which reaffirmed the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the sole basis for negotiations.
