DR ‹ › Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, presided over the 5th Morocco-Niger Joint Cooperation Commission on Wednesday in Niamey. At this Joint Commission, co-chaired by Bakary Yaou Sangaré, Niger's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad, Bourita underscored Morocco's dedication to South-South cooperation. In his opening address, he highlighted key royal initiatives aimed at fostering continental integration, particularly the Initiative of Atlantic African States and efforts to enhance Sahelian states' access to the Atlantic Ocean. Bourita reiterated Morocco's solidarity with Niger in combating terrorism and violent extremism, condemning the terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure within the country. He also noted that this 5th session of the Joint Commission represents a significant milestone in bilateral relations, marked by the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding across essential sectors such as renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, health, transport, infrastructure, youth, and sports. The minister acknowledged the positive impact of Moroccan private sector investments in Niger, particularly in banking, telecommunications, and air transport, and expressed optimism about the potential for further expansion to benefit both nations. Furthermore, he commended the strong cooperation in academic, cultural, and religious domains, particularly through the annual scholarship programs available to Nigerien students.
