French Ambassador to Morocco Christophe Lecourtier ‹ › French Ambassador to Morocco Christophe Lecourtier is expected to visit Laayoune on April 15 to attend the official inauguration of the new premises of the Paul Pascon French International School, part of the MLF Morocco network. The ceremony will be attended by several officials, including the network's president, Christian Masset, according to the French Embassy in Morocco. Opened in 2012, the school is part of the MLF Morocco network (formerly OSUI) and remains the only French educational institution in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region. The new facility will significantly expand its capacity, enabling it to accommodate up to 600 students from preschool through high school. The French Embassy said the visit highlights France's continued commitment to education and to Moroccan youth. It added that the new campus reflects the strength of French-Moroccan cooperation in the field of education. During his visit, Lecourtier is also scheduled to meet with the regional governor, the mayor, and the president of the regional council. He is expected to reaffirm France's support for the economic and social development of Morocco's southern regions, particularly through the work of the French Development Agency. France officially recognized Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara in July 2024, endorsing the Moroccan autonomy plan as the sole basis for resolving the dispute, a move that marked a significant shift in Paris's position on the issue.
