DR ‹ › Police officers from the regional security department in Guercif, working in coordination with their counterparts in Laayoune, have apprehended five individuals aged between 32 and 44. These suspects are believed to be part of a fraud network that impersonates officials from public institutions to scam victims and steal their banking information. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects would phone their victims, pretending to offer social assistance benefits. This ruse was used to coax victims into divulging their banking details, which were subsequently exploited to siphon funds from their accounts. Thanks to technical investigations and on-the-ground inquiries, authorities were able to identify and arrest the suspects. A check of their records in the national security database revealed that one suspect is wanted nationwide under a warrant issued by the Royal Gendarmerie in Oujda for suspected involvement in an assault and battery case. The suspects are now under judicial investigation, supervised by the competent public prosecutor. This investigation aims to delve deeper into the case, uncover any further criminal activities, and establish the full extent of the charges against them.
