Police officers in the city of Larache, in coordination with their counterparts in Tetouan and based on intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle two tons of cannabis resin (chira) on Wednesday evening. Eight individuals, aged between 39 and 59, were arrested on suspicion of belonging to a criminal network involved in international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking. According to a security source, the operation was carried out near Larache's coastal strip and led to the seizure of 51 bundles of cannabis resin, weighing a total of two tons, intended for international maritime smuggling. Authorities also seized an inflatable boat, a marine engine, and two vehicles bearing fake license plates. The suspects have been placed under judicial investigation by the judicial police in Tetouan, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office. The investigation aims to identify any additional links to the criminal network and to apprehend other individuals involved in the operation, according to the same source.
