The Regional Office of Marrakech South of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Funds has filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor at the Marrakech Court of Appeals, requesting an investigation into alleged embezzlement of public funds, unlawful benefits from contracts, illicit enrichment, and abuse of power by unknown individuals. The case concerns the new bus station project in Marrakech. According to the complaint, the project—part of the «Renewed City» program—was allocated a budget of approximately 1.2 billion dirhams (120 million dirhams). Although completed more than two years ago, the station remains non-operational, which the association considers a waste of public funds. The complaint further states that during the 2009–2015 mandate, the Marrakech City Council approved the construction of a new bus station, the creation of a taxi rank, and the expansion of the municipal market on state-owned land in the Al Azouzia area. This decision, however, was made without consulting or obtaining approval from transportation professionals, who reportedly own 60% of the shares in the company managing the current Bab Doukkala bus station. Additionally, the association points to a 7,500-square-meter area initially allocated for the taxi station, which was allegedly leased under questionable circumstances to the company «AYA KECH GEST». The purpose of the lease was subsequently changed to allow the establishment of a project including a motel, rest area, and service station. The complaint raises suspicions regarding the relationship between members of the Marrakech City Council and the managers of the beneficiary company. The association is calling for the National Brigade of the Judicial Police to summon a range of individuals for questioning, including municipal officials from the 2009–2015 and 2015–2021 mandates, the former governor who chaired the Exceptions Committee, the managers of AYA KECH GEST, members of the Investment Committee, the Director of State Properties in Marrakech, transportation professionals at the Bab Doukkala station, officials from the company awarded the construction contract for the new station, and representatives from the engineering, design, and oversight firms, as well as the Urban Planning Department of the Municipality and Province of Marrakech.
